TINA MODOTTI

Assunta Adelaide Luigia Modotti was born in Udine, Italy, August the 17th, 1896. At seventeen years emigrated to the United States with her family. Worked in Hollywood. In 1921 North American photographer knew Edward excellent Weston who taught to her to use the camera. In 1922 she arrived to Mexico where knew Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. In our country found a great number of subjects that inspired her better photographies. Member became of Communist Party in 1927 and participated actively in the campaign “Hands outside Nicaragua” and helped to found the first Italian antifascist committee. At the beginning of 1930, was expelled from accused Mexico unjustly to conspire to assassinate the President.

 She arrived to Germany in the middle of 1930. Traveled to the Soviet Union where she was eeted again with Vittorio Vidali, whom had known in Mexico. Participated in International Red Socorro.

In 1934 started off for Spain. After the military rebellion in 1936, one got ready to the Fifth Regiment and worked with the International Brigades, with the name of Maria, until the aim of the war. In 1939 returned like put in a home to Mexico, where she continued with her political activity through the Antifascist Alliance Giuseppe Garibaldi. In 1940, the Cardinal red government of Lazaro annulled her expulsion of 1930. She died, of an attack cardiac, in January the 5th of 1942.
