REMEDIOS VARO

Spanish painter who arrived at the surrealism from the hand of Paul Eluard and André Bretón and introduced east style in Mexico. She was born in Girona in 1908, in 1917 is transferred to Madrid where she enrolls in the Academy of San Fernando in 1924. There she remains six years, agreeing with Maruja Mallo and Dalí.

 In 1932 one settles in Barcelona where she makes contact with enemy with the Catalan vanguard. After her marriage with French poet Benjamin Péret, she is transferred to Paris in 1937 where she establishes friendship with the theoreticians of the surrealism, style that would introduce in Mexico after her arrival in 1940. In 1940 exiles to Mexico in company of Péret.

There she dedicates herself to the advertising design, restoration of pre-Hispanic objects and clothes design, even diminishing consequently her pictorial production. In 1947 one separates of Péret and march to Venezuela where she remains until 1949. In 1953 she returns again to Mexico, eeting again themselves with the painting and finding finally a personal style, that will give world-wide fame her until her death in 1963. In these ten years she reaches the pictorial maturity and she knows the success critic and public.
