NAHUI OLIN

Carmen Mondragón, well-known like Nahui Ollin, was a painter and Mexican poetess who was born in the city of Mexico, in an accumulated family of the Porfiriato, at the end of century XIX. Still being young, her parents sent her to attend the basic education in Paris, France, in a boarding school where also she would learn on diverse arts, like the classic dance, the painting, Literature and the theater. Was in 1921 when Gerald Murillo knew in a pictorial exhibition the outstanding plastic artist, who was well-known like Doctor Atl.

 His talent captivated her in such a way that she decided to visit in his house; thus it was as in a moment they initiated a loving relation that stayed by almost five years and of that survive more than two hundred letters written by her and several works that portray it signed by him. It is then of her life where Carmen assumes the name of Nahui Ollin, words that remember the date that in the Aztec calendar was consecrated to the renovation of the cycles of the cosmos.

With her form to cause to the moral, Nahui defied moral convention, broke rules and, seducing the surroundings, incarnated to “the fatal woman”, the vampiresa. For 1934, after death of her last love, Eugene Agacino, Nahui decided on the solitude that, at the same time, allowed him to completely devote to the writing dedicating only a little time to the painting. Died in 1978 in the middle of absolute desolation.
