MARĶA IZQUIERDO


She born in San Juan de los Lagos in 1902. Enrolls in the Academy of San Carlos in 1928, institution that leaves soon after, in an explicit rejection of the prevailing academicism.

Shortly after her unites narrow relation with Rufino Tamayo, the one that will influence clearly in the later map courses of her pictorial work. Exposes for the first time in the Gallery of Modern Art of the city of Mexico in 1929. Soon finds her vein: an alive and spontaneous expression in which the shades of her privacy register.

Approaches Mexican popular subjects, but also those that belong to the universal History of the painting, as they are the circus ones. Antonin Artaud publishes during her stay between us an ignition praise on the painter. The Museum of Modern Art of New York includes her work in the exhibition Twenty centuries of Mexican Art, celebrated in this metropolis in 1940. Left Maria dies in 1955.
